Top 10 (School Appropriate) TV Shows on Netflix

Do you ever get bored and you just can’t figure out what to do? During this dull time of year, it is best to relax and watch some Netflix with friends and family. On Netflix there are hundreds of TV shows to choose from, but sometimes you just don’t know what to watch. You can spend hours just trying to sort out through the bad TV series and still have no clue of what you want to see. Netflix provides various TV shows, that are for all ages, and even has Netflix originals that have quickly become the latest trend. With a wide range of shows, how do you choose? If you have this problem, look no further because in this article it will list some of the top ten TV shows, that will surely please everyone.

  1. Arrow- Former party boy, Oliver Queen, returns to Starling City after being presumed dead. Returning five years later, a lot has changed. No longer is Oliver carefree; he is a grown man that is war hardened. Many do not know that Oliver is on a mission to save his city. Dressed as a masked vigilante, later known as the Green Arrow, Oliver Queen attempts to clean up his city in spite of the many challenges he faces. Queen and his trusted friends try to save the day, in an effort to mend his past and to continue to revive the town to what he once knew.      
  2. The 100- Set in the future, the Earth has been deemed unlivable. Before the world was filled with radiation, countries had once gathered their people and formed an Arc. On this space station, rules were set; any crime is punishable by death, unless they are under eighteen years old. Almost a century has past when all of a sudden a pod was deployed. On this pod are one hundred of the Arc’s criminals, all of them teenagers. The show focuses on the life of these teens that have now landed
  3. Grey’s Anatomy- Throughout this television series, it tells the story of Meredith Grey and her journey to becoming a successful surgeon. It all starts out with Meredith’s first year of being an intern and the many problems that she is faced with, both in the hospital and at home. Aside from trying to follow in her mother’s footsteps of carrying on the family name, she also has to overcome her past. Along the way Meredith grows as an adult both emotionally and mentally and has made friends that will last her a lifetime.  
  4. Gilmore Girls- This lovable show focuses on the life of Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory. Mostly set in the small town of Stars Hollow, it follows the life of Rory as she goes through high school and college. Even though the main characters are lively and real, the townspeople have a life of their own. Minor characters, such as Miss. Patty and Kirk, play a comedic role in the show that offer some relief whenever the plot gets too intense. For any of those who are familiar with the show there is one question that comes to mind. “Jess, Dean, or Logan?”
  5. Friends- Friends is a hilarious and heartfelt show that tells the story of Rachel Green, Monica Geller, Phoebe Buffay, Ross Geller, Joey Tribbiani, and Chandler Bing. They are all in their twenties and soon become great friends when they reconnect for the first time since high school, while living in New York City. Over the course of ten years, they learn to become a family despite the hardships that they encounter. Along the way, some of them find love while others have heartbreak. However, in spite of the good and bad times these six individuals have a friendship that is so strong that nothing will break the bond that they have formed.
  6. Sherlock- This BBC show gives a modern twist to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who are timeless characters. Taking place in present-day London it follows consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes, and war veteran, John Watson. Using his rude (yet effective) sense of deduction Sherlock and Watson solve London’s most bizarre and mysterious crimes. Although there are not many episodes, each are about an hour and a half long, which leaves plenty of time to binge watch.
  7. The Office- The show is a mockumentary and starts off with the the manager of a paper company named, Michael Scott. It is a hilarious show that features Michael and other employees in which he “manages” throughout his day at the office. Throughout the series, Michael does his best to keep the company running while also trying to please his fellow workers. Each one of his co-workers including Dwight Schrute, Pam Beesly, and more, have unique personalities that bring excitement to the office.
  8. New Girl – Jess is a bubbly and outgoing school teacher who soon finds herself in a predicament that forces her to find a new place to live. She soon meets Nick, Schmidt, and Winston, in which they all agree to let Jess move in with them. Nick is currently a law school dropout, who is working at a bar. His best friend Schmidt, is a businessman who soon chases after Jess’s best friend named CeCe. Then there is Winston who once was a professional athlete and now has to much free time on his hands. Throughout the show, Jess and her three roommates have some crazy experiences that only bring them closer together at the end of the day.
  9. One Tree Hill- The small town of Tree Hill, located in North Carolina, follows the life of two teenage boys named Lucas and Nathan Scott. Lucas and Nathan are half brothers, who have a very different relationship with their father.While Nathan has the support of their father, Dan Scott, Lucas is left to help support his hardworking mother, Karen Roe.  Both boys have an astounding talent for basketball, following in their father’s footsteps.  However, a rivalry soon begins between Lucas and Nathan in which they must prove who is the best player on the court. While Nathan is pushed by his overly competitive father, it is up to Lucas to make a name for himself and learn to overcome the obstacles that come along with being on the high school basketball team.  
  10. Bones – This detective show follows forensic anthropologist, Temperance Brennan, and the lovable detective, Seeley Booth. Paired with Brennan’s “Squint Squad,” Booth and and Bones solve murders in and around the Washington D.C. area. Characters like Hodgins, Angela, and Sweets add depth and emotion to the typical crime fighting shows that are all too common on television.

These are just a few of the most popular shows to watch on Netflix that almost everybody is watching. It just depends on what mood you are feeling.
