Five HHS Students Attending Boys State

The American Legion Post 199 will be sponsoring five boys from Hawthorne High School to attend the American Legion Boys State program to be held at Rider College, Lawrenceville, New Jersey, on June 22-27, 2014.

Post 199 was so impressed with the all of the candidates that additional funding was secured to send all five boys and not eliminate anyone.  The 2014 delegates representing Hawthorne High School are:  Julio Aybar, Shamel Dishack, Calvin Graham, Steven Sutphin, and Theodore Wagner.

According to The American Legion’s official website, American Legion Boys State is a well-respected and selective educational program that provides government instruction for U.S. high school juniors, where they become part of the operation of local, county and state government.

Boys State activities are run by the students elected to various offices and include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs.
