At the first gathering of the Hawthorne High School Library Media Center’s Seniors & Teens Together program on October 5, the Math Club members helped their guests tackle the challenges of technology.  While sharing light refreshments, students patiently guided the senior citizens through tasks such as taking, saving and sending photographs with smartphones; creating an email account; learning to text family and friends; and more.  Club advisors, Cheryl Pasquale and Michele Phibbs stood by with Principal Dan LaGrone, Vice Principal Craig Jandoli, and BOE president Alex Clavijo, as the students engaged in conversation and many laughs with their guests. The program will run throughout the school year with a different club hosting the event each month.

The next meeting will be hosted by the Robotics Club on Wednesday, November 2 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.  This program will give senior citizens the hands-on opportunity to help students make computer-controlled robots.
