Hawthorne Participates in Statewide Service Project

Abby Reicher, Staff Writer

In Hawthorne High School there are many great career starting classes, including Tomorrow’s Teachers.  This class is for students who want to pursue a career in teaching.  The teacher cadets are participating in a statewide service project from the NJFEA State Officers that is called the Summer Literacy 2017.  The teacher cadets have a number of  different schools in need of  books and hopefully they can fill the bookshelves with your help.

Please help these students get as many books as possible for schools that are in need of children’s books.  The class is going to start the donation book trail at Washington Elementary School and then go from there.  The class is collecting old, new, used, and any age level books.  Although the class has started with an elementary school, the teacher cadets want to put a book in every child’s hand.

Students have decorated boxes where the books will be collected.  The boxes will be in the main office, the main cafeteria, and the library. The fundraiser is ending on June 1, 2017.  Let’s make a goal to stock all of the bookshelves here in Hawthorne, as well as New Jersey.

The students’ goal is to receive and donate 250-350 books.  Please help the class and the needed schools reach this goal.  If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask Mr. Gomes here at HHS or through email at [email protected].  Thank you for your generous donations.
