1st Annual Project Graduation 5k

Aidan Harmer, Staff Writer

On September 18, 2016 the 1st Annual Project Graduation 5k was held outside of Hawthorne High School’s school parking lot. Seventy-four runners came out that morning to run for the good cause of raising money for this year’s graduating class.  Attending the run were Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Richard Spirito, Hawthorne High School’s Librarian, Mrs. Theresa DiGeronimo, plus many other HHS students, teachers, and alumni. In all, over $3000 was raised.

The course was setup throughout Hawthorne.  Starting at HHS, the runners ran alongside Goffle Brook, looped around on Lafayette Avenue then took a right on Diamond Bridge Avenue.  The final straight-away was located on Brookside Avenue which proceeded to the high school.

The top male and overall finisher was Aidan Harmer with a time of 20:09.  The top female finisher was Ariela Szwarc who finished with a time of 21:47.

We hope to see you all next year at the 2nd Annual Project Graduation 5k!
