Italian Honor students hosting Hawthorne’s senior citizens

At the March gathering of the Hawthorne High School Library Media Center’s Seniors & Teens Together program, the Italian Honor Society members, under the supervision of club adviser Dr. Karen McSherry, taught their guests the Italian card game Scopa while savoring Italian pastries.

This program, sponsored by the HHS Library Media Center, allows teens and Hawthorne’s senior citizens to meet once a month for intergenerational dialogue, fun, and learning experiences. The objective is to create a partnership between our senior citizens and our teens that allow for positive experiences, reversal of negative perceptions and social interaction for both groups.

The program has one remaining event scheduled for Wednesday, April 5 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the high school art room. Hawthorne senior citizens and their friends are invited to join students in the Art Club to create an acrylic painting.
