Ms. Scott Takes a Shot At Hawthorne High School

You may have noticed a new teacher in Mrs. Alyssa Schlossberg’s classroom and wondered, who is that?

Her name is Cara Scott and she is the new English teacher that is replacing Mrs. Schlossberg until the end of the 2017 school year. Students are adjusting to the change in a positive way, and many students are already complimenting her approach to teaching.

Ms. Scott grew up right around the corner in Glen Rock. She started out as a paraprofessional in Lincoln Middle School. Ms. Scott will stay with us until June where she hopefully will find another position here in Hawthorne High School or in the Hawthorne School District.

Taking over one senior English class, and three English sophomore classes (two honors and one college prep), Ms. Scott has done a great job with keeping everything organized and students well prepared. As a new teacher, taking over a high school classroom can seem quite scary, but with the help of our cooperating students and faculty, the job will be easier.

When asked about why she chose to be a teacher, Ms. Scott had a positive response saying, “I love reading…and reading with younger people is an amazing experience.”

So far, Ms. Scott has enjoyed her time here at Hawthorne High School and thinks the faculty, as well as the students, are pleasant to work with. Although students miss Mrs. Schlossberg, they welcomed Miss Scott with open arms. We, students, hope to see Ms. Scott around in Hawthorne High School after her teaching time in Mrs. Schlossberg’s class is over because she is now part of the Bear Country!
