North Korea Ends Cease-Fire

North Korea, led by Kim Jong-un (son of infamous past-leader Kim Jon-il), ended the cease-fire toward South Korea from the 1953 Korean War on Monday, March 11, 2013. North Korea claims that if the United States gets involved, it will attack the U.S. with nuclear weapons.

“How long are we going to repeat this vicious cycle where the North Koreans create tensions and we give them compromises and aid?” asked South Korean president Park Geun-hye, according to The New York Times writers Choe Sang-hun and David E. Sanger. South Korea has already begun preparing themselves for war with military drills and supply preparations. United States President Barack Obama believes that the young North Korean leader will be satisfied only when he shows his capability of force with “a missile test in open ocean.”

According to a report posted on the Huffington Post online news site, this cease-fire has caused more than just an empty threat as, according to Air Force Space Commander William Shelton, planned budget cuts for the United States Air Force have been cancelled due to fear of needed action against North Korean nuclear threats.

Lately, on websites such as iFunny, 9gag, and Reddit, Jong-un has been made a joke of. Various memes have been spread across the Internet depicting ideas such as a lack of advancement in North Korean nuclear weapons, and stupid comments that some believe Jong-un would make. Although America may not take him seriously, nuclear threats are nothing to take lightly in today’s society. America, as of now, will not be getting involved offensively but certainly will do what is needed–even if that means going to war–to defend the country.
