On February 23, Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman Tour hit Madison Square Garden in NYC for two nights in a row.

February 23 was the first night. The concert was set to start at 7:30 with Victoria Monet opening up the show. Getting through security was quick and easy, then came the dreaded lines to buy merchandise. MSG had three spots for merchandise. There was one on the first, sixth, and eighth floor. All three booths had a big amount of people waiting. People getting on line around 7:00, got merchandise by 7:30.

The first act, Victoria Monet, took the stage at approximately 7:30 and played about four songs. Her music isn’t that well known yet, but she was very good at keeping the crowd pumped and her songs were catchy. She performed a song that she and Ariana Grande wrote together called “Better Days” which she performed with Ariana later in the show. Victoria’s set ended around 8:15 and soon after the hot girl group from the X Factor, UK Little Mix, took the stage, bringing the crowd to their feet.

Little Mix consists of four members: Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirwall, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. It was their first time ever playing at MSG and the crowd just welcomed them with open arms. Little Mix performed “Wings”, “Secret Love Song”, “Hair”, “Black Magic”, and the so popular “Shoutout to my Ex.”

At 8:50 the lights went off again and the 10 minute countdown began which featured Ariana getting ready with some guest appearances from her two twin dancers/choreographers Brian and Scott Nicholson. Once the countdown was over, Ariana was fast to appear onstage opening up with “Be Alright.” Ariana did not talk much to the crowd this time around, but kept saying that she loved New York while fighting back tears. It was not Ariana’s fault, but it was hard to see her face up close at certain points because there was no other screen besides the one on the stage to show her face.

1974 HHS Alumni Jackie Burrows attended the concert and said, “I think Ariana is a great singer/songwriter and I get that she wants to make her shows more “mature” but her first tour where she had cat ears for the audience that lit up with her songs was better, more entertaining. I loved the show, it was great. But you just can’t beat audience participation!”

Overall, the concert was great. It had a lot of visuals and effects that just left the audience in awe. This was Ariana’s first time playing at MSG and she didn’t fail to amaze the people of NYC.
