Eileen Deming graduated HHS in 2005 and went to the University of Scranton to major in Nursing. She graduated Scranton in May of 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). She currently works as a Critical Care Nurse at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Georgia.
Deming works with patients who are in “unstable or life-threatening situations and require close nursing supervision and treatment.” She also does basic care for the patients and tries to keep them as comfortable as she can. Besides doing things for the patients physically, she also does things for them and their families mentally. “I take care of their emotional needs and support and educate the patient and family,” Deming said. Deming makes sure that the patient’s needs are fulfilled and that they, “coordinate with the plan of care” as decided by the doctor.
“I work with a great group of nurses,” Deming explained. “We support each other and no matter how stressful and demanding the situation may be, there’s always someone who has my back.” Since medicine is always changing, Deming learns something new every day and explains that there are so many career paths in nursing and one never gets bored.
Deming believes that her education at HHS “set a foundation” for her years at the University of Scranton. She believes that no matter where you receive your education or where life takes you, your success is determined by your hard work and effort. “You get out of something what you put into it,” Deming said.
