Footloose: Then and Now

Let’s dance! Footloose is a 1984 classic tale. City boy Ren MacCormack comes to a small town where dancing has been banned because of a drunk driving accident. Ren challenges the ban and falls in love with Ariel Moore.

The remake of this movie features actor Kenny Wormald (Ren MacCormack), who girls fall head over heels for, and Dancing with the Stars Julianne Hough (Ariel Moore).

The remake of Footloose keeps much of the original story. The movie even features the same yellow Volkswagen bug as seen in the original. The films differ in tiny details. Instead of a game of chicken on tractors like in the classic, the remake has a race on the dirt-track using school buses. The filmmakers had a challenge making the story line flow in a modern setting.

The new Footloose brings in a whole new generation. Clothing and the dance moves are much more modern. My favorite parts of the movie are all the dancing scenes because they are entertaining to watch. They made me want to get up and dance too!

The 2011 remake might not live up to the original but it still will entertain many who had at least a little interest in the original film, especially because the story is much like the 1984 classic. The new Footloose appeals to the younger generation because we are more familiar with the actors, and the setting is more updated.
