January 11, 2018
On Wednesday, December 20, the original musical The Greatest Showman was released in theaters. The film follows the story of P.T. Barnum (Hugh Jackman) and how he rose up from nothing and worked to create his own circus that left a lasting impression worldwide. With a stellar cast and music composed by Oscar and Tony-winning songwriters, The Greatest Showman tells an inspiring story all the while celebrating diversity and the beginning of show business.
The film presents 11 show-stopping musical numbers that have you mesmerized from beginning to end. The real standout songs being “This Is Me” and “Rewrite the Stars,” both placing high on the iTunes charts. “This Is Me,” sung by Keala Settle and the rest of the cast, is by far one of the most emotional songs in the film. The song celebrates imperfections and focuses on what makes everyone unique. No wonder it won a Golden Globe! Zac Efron and Zendaya’s duet, “Rewrite the Stars,” easily becomes one of the most memorable parts of the film with its amazing trapeze visuals and its emotional telling of their characters’ “forbidden” love.
Hugh Jackman and the rest of the cast deliver strong and moving performances, making every character stand out in their own unique way. As Hugh Jackman’s character rallies up a group of outcasts and turns their insecurities into something amazing, you realize that your own “insecurities,” may not be a bad thing. The Greatest Showman teaches you to embrace your flaws and use them to create something special.
This film will have you singing, dancing, laughing, and may even bring you to tears. The stunning special effects and choreography are a sight to see on the big screen. The Greatest Showman is now playing in theaters.
