Up and Coming Artist WHATUPRG Releases First EP, “Pleasant Hill”

Yes, you read that right. His name is WHATUPRG. It is pronounced, WHAT-UP-RG. “My name was always RG and I changed it… for SEO purposes. I went through two weeks of trying to find a new name but they were all whack. My friend suggested WHATUPRG because those are my handles on social media.” he said in an interview.  He recently got signed to a record label, Reach Records, which consists of Billboard chart-topping, Grammy and award-winning artists such as Lecrae, Andy Mineo, Trip Lee and others.

Now, you’ve probably never heard of any of these people. That’s because for most of their careers, the mainstream has left them out of the scene, even though their rapping skill goes above 90 percent of the rappers that are popular, especially nowadays. It’s because of the kind of music Reach Records artists make. It’s not explicit, and it’s not drug-endorsing. However, the hip-hop community has made that criteria its most popular subject, gaining a lot of attention. Only now, being a “conscious” rapper or a rapper who talks about “real stuff” is becoming encouraged by the hip-hop community. WHATUPRG is no exception to a “conscious” rapper. One of his first songs, “Don’t Forget to Live”, tells the listener to not waste their life, and especially not to waste their life sleeping around, getting caught up in riches and fame, or worrying about what others think about you, and to instead embrace your God-given identity.

His new, long-anticipated EP, “Pleasant Hill” released on May 25, 2018 and it is available on iTunes, YouTube, Spotify and Google Play Music.
