The year 2019 marks the 20th anniversary that the unique, iconic, and hysterical adult cartoon, Family Guy has been on the air. Though the show has faced constant criticism, comparisons to other shows, and being cancelled (but put back on the air twice) Family Guy still continues to be the favorite show of many teenagers and adults. To celebrate the show’s 20 years on air, we are going to give you 10 facts about Family Guy that most people don’t know.

 

Fact #1: After more than a decade of being compared to The SimpsonsFamily Guy and The Simpsons combined for a 1 hour crossover episode. The episode was Family Guy’s 13th season premiere.

Fact #2: The opening theme of Family Guy is based on the introduction of the 1970’s sitcom, All In the Family. All In the Family was Family Guy‘s creator, Seth Macfarlane’s, favorite show.

Fact #3: Although Seth Macfarlane voices 16 characters on the show, the only character that he uses his everyday speaking voice for is The Griffin’s family dog, Brian Griffin.

Fact #4: Seth Macfarlane was supposed to be on American Airlines Flight 11, the hijacked plane that was sent crashing into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, but was late due to the airport and missed his flight.

Fact #5: Although being one of the most recognized cartoons of all time and being nominated several times, Family Guy has never one an Emmy Award.

Fact #6: Family Guy is notorious for its Star Wars parody episodes. The one hour specials were very well received by Star Wars creator, George Lucas, who describes the parodies as, “absolutely hysterical.”

Fact #7: Meg Griffin, the only daughter of the Griffins, is the only character on the show to have two different people voice her. Lacey Chabert voiced her from 1999-2000 and Mila Kunis has voiced her from 2000-present.

Fact #8: Seth Macfarlane is not the only staff member on the show who voices numerous characters. Along with voicing Lois Griffin, Alex Borstein voices 3 other re-occurring characters.

Fact #9: The Griffin family is of Irish and Jewish descent.

Fact #10: Almost all of the Griffin family members resemble or are based on characters from The Life of Larry and Steve, a short made by Seth Macfarlane before Family Guy.
