Tardar Sauce, known to the rest of the world as “Grumpy Cat”, passed away at the age of 7 on May 14, 2019

The breaking of the solemn news came from a post on the official Grumpy Cat twitter account three days later in the early morning hours of May 17. The account is run by members of Grumpy Cat’s family. “We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat”, they said. According to the same post, the cause of death was complications from a Urinary Tract Infection. Despite help from professional veterinarians, nothing could be done in the end. The infection was unfortunately too strong for her body to overcome. A statement from the family states: “She died peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her Mommy, Tabatha”

Grumpy Cat was known for her natural permanent grumpy look, which earned her internet fame in 2013. Becoming perhaps the most famous feline of all time. Grumpy Cat’s face reached across the entire globe. Grumpy Cat spawned plenty of memes as well, even winning the 2013 “Meme of the Year award” at the Webby Awards.

While Grumpy Cat’s legacy in the end is her demeaning look of constant disappointment and misery, she was a very loving cat who loved to be pet. Completely unknowingly, she brought smiles to millions around the world, especially those in their darkest of times.
