It is no shock to people that Hollywood loves money. Movie making can be a very difficult and time consuming process for many directors and producers, but that’s not an excuse to be pushing out low budget animated movies that have no reason to exist other than to sell merchandise and rake in money from little kids who don’t know any better.

Despicable Me came out in 2010 and was very well liked. This movie still included the Minions, but only used them for a few jokes. When Despicable Me 2 came out 3 years later they started to use the Minions more because people thought they were funny and cute.

After Despicable Me 2 they just made a movie completely focusing on the Minions because Illumination Entertainment (the studio that created the movie) knew that people didn’t care about anything related to Despicable Me. They made this film calling it a prequel to Despicable Me, but it literally had nothing to do with Despicable Me until the end of the movie. All 3 Despicable Me movies have Minions on the cover, but why?

When you look at the Minions movie you can really notice how little time they worked on the design for the characters. If you hadn’t seen the movie you couldn’t tell the three main characters apart and every single character looks exactly the same. They did this because the more simple a character’s design, the cuter he/she appears to be. They obviously did this to cater to children and boy did it work.

 The budget for this movie was around $74,000,000 which is a little low for an animated film. The movie then went on to make roughly 1.1 billion dollars worldwide! 

If you’re wondering why I have such a big problem with this, is because Minions are everywhere! You can’t go to a single store or go online for 5 minutes without seeing them, and it isn’t deserved. The movie does not deserve the amount of money it made and the popularity it has achieved. Recently it has gone public that there is going to be a sequel to this movie coming out next year in 2020.

The sequel doesn’t make any sense at all because it is supposed to be focused on the main character of the Despicable Me movies but the movie is called Minions 2 not something that relates to the original film in the slightest. All I wanted to say is that I dislike all of the animated movies that just use cute characters (that don’t even speak) to market their movies. I know this movie came out 4 years ago but no one has really been talking about this problem and I feel it needed to be addressed.
