Beloved comedian John Mulaney, checked himself into a Pennsylvania rehab facility on December 21st after a relapse of his alcohol and cocaine sobrieties. Mulaney got his start as a writer for Saturday Night Live back in 2012 and since has gone on to host the show 4 times, 2 of which were just this year. Mulaney has been open about his struggles with sobriety from a young age, “I was really outgoing, and then at 12, I wasn’t. I didn’t know how to act. And then I was drinking, and I was hilarious again.” Mulaney first became sober at age 23 but cites that the pandemic has been a really tough struggle for him. A source close to Mulaney claims that he isn’t fighting against rehab, he plans on staying at the facility for 60 days and most importantly he has the full support of his family and friends. Many comedians took to Twitter last night to show their support for Mulaney. ESPN’s Katie Nolan went on to say, “Let the news of John Mulaney be a reminder to us all that we are all going through a collective trauma with this pandemic, and for many of us that’s on top of struggles we were already having. Check on your people. Asking for help isn’t cowardly, it’s courageous.” Everyone collectively wishes nothing but the best for Mulaney and hope that he’ll be able to get better soon.
