John Mulaney Returns to Standup Following Divorce
June 16, 2021
Following a 60 day stint in a Pennsylvania rehab facility this past year, John Mulaney and Anna Marie Tendler are divorcing. A spokesperson for Mulaney confirmed he had filed for a divorce from Tendler but, the reason for doing so is unknown. The two had been married for nearly seven years, saying their vows in July of 2014. Tendler had been the inspiration for many of his jokes in his stand up shows and the two lived together with their dog Petunia. Between the shutdown that occurred in 2020, and his stint in rehab Mulaney had been absent from the stage up until this Monday. Laughter is often described as the best medicine and that seems to be the purpose behind his return to the stage. Mulaney is performing a 4 night stint at City Winery in New York going from May 10th through May 14th. The venue has a no phone policy so unfortunately most people won’t be able to hear his new material. One attendee described the set as “remarkably raw, vulnerable, personal.” The set mostly focused on Mulaney’s intervention and the rehab process, mixing the trying times with his usual comedic flare.
