Selena Quintanilla was known as “The Queen of Tejano music.” Selena was born on April 16, 1971 and passed away when she was shot and murdered by Yolanda Saldivar on March 31, 1995 at the age of 23.

She was best known for her music and fashion throughout the late 20th century. Selena became a legend, who even has her own statue in Houston, Texas, where she was born. She also has  dolls and figures, posters, t-shirts and even a movie that was made about her life.

The film “Selena” starring Jennifer Lopez was released 25 years ago. On March 21, 1997, the movie was released, making Jennifer Lopez (the actress who played Selena) a star. “Selena” was a movie all about the Mexican-American girl who grew up in Houston, Texas and became one of the most well-known Latin-American singers in the world.

Selena Quintanilla became a legend and her story was told world-wide. On the 25th anniversary of the “Selena” film release, Jennifer Lopez posted a heartfelt message about the anniversary of the film. She shared a slideshow full of photos and videos of all the memories and scenes that were taken from making the movie.

“What a very special day… we’re celebrating 25 years of SELENA! Today we celebrate and honor Selena’s legacy and music,” Lopez wrote on her Instagram on Monday. “This movie means so much to me… Selena and her family mean so much to me, and I was so lucky to be chosen to play her.” She also said, “I’ll never forget this time in my life and it is an honor as an artist to have been a part of the magic that is this movie.”
