The 94th annual Oscars awards were held this year on March 27 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. They definitely were a hit! If you are unaware of what occurred, don’t worry, The Clarion will fill you in! 

Lately, the Oscars have gone down in the ratings. No one is on the edge of their seats anymore. Luckily things have definitely changed this year.

An incident occurred while Chris Rock was presenting during the show. He stated, “Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see you.” He was referring to Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith’s wife.

Jada had recently shaved her head due to her alopecia. Will Smith took matters into his own hands and walked up on the stage. He slapped Chris Rock right in the face and walked off like nothing happened.

It seemed like this joke must have really gotten to him and he could not control his temper. We have never really seen Will Smith as an aggressive guy. Even though this happened, he went on to win “Best Actor” for the film “King Richard” anyway. 

Many viewers thought that this could be a PR stunt to improve the Oscars ratings. Others thought that this was the real deal because of Will Smith’s use of foul language.

But, this definitely did improve the Oscars. It’s all people can talk about. I wonder if the upcoming Oscars can one up this one?
