Psycho is a horror movie that was released in 1960 and was directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It is based on the novel Psycho by Robert Bloch. Its budget was $807K and it made $50 million at the box office. It is one of the most recognizable horror films of all time. It is about a secretary named Marion Crane, who stole $40,000 from a client and goes to live with her boyfriend. She is then murdered at the Bates Motel. This story is based on the real murderer Ed Gein who was active between 1947 and 1957. If you have not seen this movie yet, it is the perfect time to do so if you enjoy murder mystery.
Another excellent horror movie is The Shining. The Shining was released in 1980 and was directed by Stanley Kubrick. It is based on the novel The Shining by Stephen King. Its budget was $19 million and it made $47.3 million at the box office. This movie is also extremely iconic and well known by the public. It is about a man named Jack Torrance who went to look after an isolated hotel in Colorado. He goes with his wife, Wendy, and his son, Danny, who has been having visions at this hotel that have been getting more prominent and more disturbing. Jack finds out secrets about the hotel and starts to grow more insane and manic and starts to terrorize his family. This story was inspired by a real haunted hotel in Colorado, although the exact story is fictional. It is a very classic horror movie and is extremely recommended.
If horror movies aren’t your kind of thing there are many other halloween movies to watch. One of these movies is Corpse Bride. Corpse Bride was released in 2005 and was directed by Tim Burton and Mike Johnson. This story is based on Jewish folklore. Its budget was $40 million and it made $118.1 million at the box office. It is about a man named Victor who is having an arranged marriage with a woman named Victoria. When he is practicing his proposal in the forest, he puts the ring on a tree branch pretending it is Victoria’s finger. The tree then summons a dead woman named Emily who thought the proposal was for her and takes him to the land of the dead. It is one of the best Tim Burton films I have seen and is perfect to set the mood for Halloween
The last movie is Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice was released in 1988 and was directed by Tim Burton. This story is based on a tale by McDowell and Larry Wilson. Its budget was $15 million and it made $84.6 million in the box office. It starts when Barbera and Adam Maitland die in a car crash and get stuck haunting a house, being unable to leave. When a girl named Lydia moves in the house with her unbearable parents, the couple starts haunting the house tries to force them out, but their attempts fail. This attracts Beetlejuice to “help” which quickly becomes dangerous for the couple and Lydia. Beetlejuice just got a sequel (Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice) so this series is perfect if you want to watch a spooky series of movies.
