The Who are an English rock band formed in London in the 1960’s.
They are thought to be one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century with over 8 million monthly listeners worldwide. The Who took some inspiration from American rhythm and blues then turned it into a unique form off British Rock that became their own. The band members include, lead vocalist Roger Daltrey, guitarist Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon. They have had much success from their lengthy career, but n0thing can ever beat their album, Who’s Next.
The Who: Who’s Next album was released on August 14, 1971. It is a total of 43 minutes and 39 seconds long, including a total of 9 songs (Disc 1). The album has a 97% rate of users liking the album and is their number 1 hit album ever. One of the greatest opening songs on any album features one of the greatest intros. That song on the album is ”Baba O’Riley.” One of the biggest contributing factors to this song is Dave Arbuses breathless violin which is the perfect finish to this endlessly ingenious track.
On a personal level, after listening to the track over and over again a favorite I experienced was “Bargain.”
Although the song is possibly a love song, it is never sentimental. Keith Moon goes with a maximalist drum approach. This elevates the song and makes the listener really tune out from the space around them.
The Who’s music is outstanding.
Who’s Next became the only Who album to make #1 in the UK charts. Its’ highest point was at #4 in the US, but songs from the album are continually played on American classic rock radio stations to this day and they won’t stop.
The Who’s music never gets old and has been listened to for over 50 years. The Who were placed #1 for years on end for a reason and it’s this time that people are finally recognizing it!
