From the mind of Stephen King, and the amazing visionary director Francis Lawrence, Comes The Long Walk, an intense dystopian thriller film starring rising talents Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson. This film has so much to offer, from the incredible cast, a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the stunning visual effects. This movie has something for everybody!
The Long Walk delivered an unforgettable story. Adapted from the Stephen King book of the same name, the film offers a powerful narrative. A story of competition, brotherhood, and the brutality of what men will do for their futures. The story follows a group of fifty young men who compete for a wish that could be anything they desire. As the story unfolds you see deep friendships form, spirits break, and haunting eliminations. The visuals were also a major highlight. Some scenes genuinely left my jaw on the floor. You are left on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
While the story is strong on its own, the film wouldn’t have been what it is without its phenomenal cast. Cooper Hoffman as Ray Garraty, and David Jonsson as Peter Mcvries are standouts among an already impressive ensemble. The chemistry amongst the group felt authentic. Mark Hamill as The Major was also a fantastic edition to the cast, showing how much range he has as an actor.
Overall, The Long Walk hit every mark for me. I went into this film with no expectations and still left blown away. The visual effects were stunning, the story was unforgettable, and the cast was just simply fantastic. The Long Walk was a breathtaking story of brotherhood, forming bonds even in bad times, and eventually having the will to keep pushing on even when hardship comes your way.
