Tis the season to be jolly: everyone is putting up their trees, hanging their stockings, and curling up on the couch to find a good holiday movie. Halloween may have passed a few months ago, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a spooky Christmas movie. Today I will be recommending three great Christmas horror films that may scare the holiday spirit out of you!
The first film is Krampus (2015). This film revolves around the Engel family and young Max, who has lost his Christmas spirit from his family’s dysfunctional squabbling, which caused an ancient holiday demon to awaken and lay siege on the Engel home. The film, though it is ten years old this December, has a special horrific charm to it that any horror fan can appreciate. From the frights, to the affects, there is a lot to love about Krampus. You can watch this holiday horror on Peacock TV right now!
The next film I present to you is none other than Black Christmas (1974). As winter break starts, a group of sorority girls start to receive weird phone calls. Initially one of the girls, Barb, eggs the caller on, but she stops when he starts to threaten her. Soon after another girl Claire had turned up missing while another adolescent girl was murdered. This leads the girls to suspect a killer is on the loose but they don’t suspect how close this killer really is. This horror classic is available for free on Tubi, go watch it!
The last movie I have is Anna and the Apocalypse, A horror/Musical film that revolves around a zombie apocalypse that is threatening the town of Little Haven during Christmas. This forces Anna and her friends to fight, slash, and sing their way to survival, facing the undead in order to reach their loved ones. Soon they discover though that nowhere is truly safe in this new apocalyptic world causing them to rely on each other more than ever. You can also watch this horrific musical on Tubi now!
Christmas may be the time for laughs, love, and giving. But these films prove that even within the season of christmas spirit you can still enjoy a little fright. Whether it’s watching an ancient demon torment a family that has lost their holiday spirit, a group of sorority sisters suspect that a killer is on the loose, or a girl and her friends singing, and slashing through the zombie apocalypse. Christmas is still a time of fun and frights!
