Tom Holland is returning yet again for a fourth installment in Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man franchise on July 31 with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The first trailer for the movie was released on March 31, and immediately the internet erupted with buzz and theories about the brand-new film, with fans analyzing every frame for hidden details and possible storylines.
The last time we saw Peter Parker, he was fighting against the multiverse villains connected to the former Spider-Men, who appeared later in the film. Parker had to make an extremely difficult choice, which would heavily affect the future of Spider-Man’s story. He had Doctor Strange cast a spell to remove Peter Parker from the world’s memory, essentially erasing his identity and leaving him completely alone, with no one remembering who he is.
From the first trailer of the upcoming film, we can tell the overall vibe is vastly different from previous films. The color grading has become far more dull and gloomy to reflect Spider-Man’s depression from the loss of both his Aunt May and his friends due to the spell. New York City seems to be far different from how it was in the last installment as well, with a more chaotic and dangerous atmosphere, along with a lively mix of villains and other characters that appear throughout the trailer.
The cast of villains that will appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is large and far more obscure, with Boomerang, Scorpion, Tarantula, The Hand, and even the return of Hulk. Jon Bernthal’s version of the Punisher will be making his return as well after his special, The Punisher: One Last Kill, which has added even more excitement for fans of the darker Marvel characters.
There is an unknown character played by Sadie Sink that has been stirring a bit of buzz online. Many believe it could be a new love interest, possibly Gwen Stacy or even Black Cat, but others believe she could be playing a much larger character that will cross into other parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe—Jean Grey, the major X-Men character. Many believe this could be Sadie Sink’s role due to her signing on for a multi-picture deal, and because of the character’s iconic red hair, which Sadie Sink is known for.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026. This film is jam-packed with new and notable characters that will put up a good fight against our favorite web-slinging crimefighter, and it looks to be one of the most ambitious Spider-Man stories yet.
