‘The Devil Wears Prada” is a fashion based movie that takes place in New York City. The movie was released in 2006, starring Meryl Streep (Miranda Preistely), Anne Hathaway (Andrea [Andy] Sachs), Emily Blunt (Emily Charleton) and Stanley Tucci (Nigel). The movie was released 20 years ago, however we are getting a sequel this May 1st. We do not know much about the plot of the film but based on the trailer it seems Andy is called back to Runway to help save Runway from the digital age.
It is believed that the movie is going to expand on Runway and will show Miranda struggling in this new digital age of news. It is rumored that the one and only Lady Gaga will star in the movie as well. Gaga already has a song in the movie called (Runway).
It is also rumored that fashion power house Donatella Versace and model/style icon Ashley Graham will be making a cameo. Many do not know that Meryl Streep’s character is based off of Vogue editor and chief Anna Wintour, Anna has said that it was delightful ‘to be played by Meryl”. Meryl and Wintour both were on the cover of Vogue which marked Anna’s first time on the cover despite being the editor and chief.
While the movie is highly anticipated the movie is also facing backlash because of an about 38 second teaser introducing a new Asian assistant character, Jin Chao (played by Helen J. Shen). Critics are arguing that the character relies on dated “nerdy” stereotypes and that her name sounds similar to a racist slur.
While there is backlash and excitement The Clarion wants to hear from you; Are you excited to return to Runway?
