Expectation vs. Reality: HHS

Rachael Konyak, Staff Writer

Admit it, before you came to Hawthorne High School, you thought this place was just a big scary building. To be honest, it is. There are a lot of different expectations of what Hawthorne High School is. It could be the stereotypical high school, with jocks and cheerleaders and nerds, or it could be a calm accepting place for students to get an education. I was curious as to what our new freshmen think of HHS so far, and how their expectations differ from the realities.

Clarion: What were your expectations of HHS as an eighth grader?

Nick Deluca: My expectations were that it would be like the movies…but I like it much more than I thought I would have.

Gabi Sandoval: I expected to be confused in the hallways, not knowing where to go and how to memorize my schedule.

Clarion: What realities were similar to your expectations?

Nick Deluca: I’ve made many new friends in different grades.

Gabi Sandoval: At first it was, and memorizing my schedule was a bit of a hassle.

Clarion: What was different?

Nick Deluca: I thought the classes would be different and more interactive.

Gabi Sandoval: Even though it was confusing at first, after only a few weeks I was able to go through the hallways easily without confusion.
