9/11

With the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks occurring more than a month ago, it is important to note something very interesting about this particular year.

The 2018-2019 school year is very different from any other, since this year’s senior class will be the last class to have been alive when the terrorist attacks occurred. Thus, making 9/11 history rather than a memory for the students of Hawthorne High School.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, several planes hijacked by members of Al-Qaeda, an Islamic terrorist group led my Osama Bin Laden, were sent crashing into the Pentagon, a field in Pennsylvania, and most notably, the World Trade Center.

The attacks caused  2,996 deaths and 6,000 injuries in total, making it the deadliest terrorist attack to happen on American soil. To this day, the sights and memories on 9/11 make people cringe with sadness on all that was lost.

With this school year being the last year that Hawthorne High School has students who were alive during the event, it is important to note and acknowledge it, as these circumstances make it that much more important.

Never forget.
