Mental Health and High School Students

Mental Health
Mental Health

Mental health as it pertains to high school students is very important, but it’s something that’s not talked about enough. There are more than 200 different mental health disorders, and many high school students suffer from at least one of them.

Most high school students suffer from depression. Depression is a mental health disorder that can affect a person’s mood and how they see things. The person tends to lose interest in the things they loved or enjoyed before. About 44.2% of high school students suffer from depression and sometimes you’d never even notice it. Most kids hide their feelings and never talk about what’s going on in their lives.

Anxiety is another mental health disorder that can disrupt a student’s life. Most of the time your heart starts beating really fast, then there’s rapid breathing and sweating, and you can also start to feel more tired than usual.

Anxiety can also be normal in stressful situations like public speaking or taking a test, but most high school students also suffer from anxiety mainly because they are starting to learn how to become adults and that change can be very scary.

Eating disorders can also impact the lives of high school students. Nowadays, society puts these images in teens’ minds telling them that you need to look a certain way to fit in; about 30 million high school students suffer from some type of eating disorder.

I believe that an eating disorder is a perfect example of a mental disorder that can lead to a physical problem. People with an eating disorder don’t get the protein or nutrition they need to have energy or help your brain process the things you learn in school. You can also become really weak because you aren’t getting the proper nutrition your body needs.

Eating disorders can also affect your heart, digestive system, and bones. You can also get diagnosed with Anorexia. Anorexia can cause the body to dehydrate, along with dizziness, fainting, low blood pressure, and feeling cold.

If you, a friend, or family member are suffering from any type of harmful mental disorder there is help: please call the Suicide Prevention Hotline by just dialing 988 you can call anytime they are open 24/7 don’t wait until it gets worse because everyone needs help sometimes: you just have to look for the help that best suits you.
