Halloween is celebrated on October 31 and is one of the most exciting holidays of the year. Halloween brings people together of all different ages to collect candy and dress up! Halloween really began with the festival called Samhain. This festival was where people lit bonfires and wore costumes to scare away ghosts. As the time went on Halloween changed into a holiday mostly focused on trick or treating, parties and even decorating homes.
Costumes/Dressing up is a big part of Halloween where people like to dress up as anything they like whether it’s an actor, singer or even something they made up themselves. Decorations used for homes are special for the trick or treaters and make them want to knock on doors. Homes on Halloween are usually covered in carved pumpkins, lights and displays of ghosts and other halloween characters everyone can join.
Then, there is the candy and snacks kids go from house to house to get. They collect lots of candy by the end of the night and help neighbors get to know each other while also making the kids happy with what they are receiving. There are also Halloween parties and events that teens look forward to. That’s a way to get together with your friends while also meeting new people, making memoirs and having a good time.
Finally, Halloween is a holiday that brings your community together by its traditions and the excitement of celebrating. Different countries around the world don’t always celebrate by going trick or treating.
Latin countries celebrate Dia de los Muertos which means day of the dead which honors deceased loved ones and families get together with candles, flowers and they visit the cemetery with music. Other countries just have parties and celebrate with family and friends. Usually each country has a unique way of celebrating Halloween.
