Hawthorne High Schools’ Media Center has so much to offer. The HHS Media Center is run by Mrs. Di Geronimo, who dedicates herself to keeping the media center interesting and informative.
During January the media center is focusing on Muslim-American Heritage Month, The Hindu Festival of Makar Sankranti, National Human Trafficking Prevention & Awareness Month, International Holocaust Remembrance Day and Martin Luther King Jr Day.
For each of these, the library offers an informational poster, book displays, morning announcements, instructional materials, and social media postings throughout the month. Spreading information and awareness on these topics are very important, especially considering some of these topics can be considered sensitive topics.
After school the library continues to host the HHS Book Club every Wednesday. This is a great way to socialize, meet new people and make new friends. This month’s book discussions focus on fantasy fiction.
Directed more towards seniors, Mrs Di Geronimo is meeting with senior English teachers to plan and prepare for the Senior Research Paper Project that will begin in Marking Period 3. Seniors should be ready for a big grade during this time.
In the library there is something called the suggestion box. You are able to put in a request for a book, and once approved, it will be added to the catalog. Recently the library has reviewed a batch of books and have added these books to display with book summaries and the recommender.
This month the library has books to help keep a new year’s resolution. Some people struggle with sticking to something, so why not check out these books that offer some help?
The most influential books for young adults in 2025 are also posted in the library: check out these books, the ones highlighted in red are the ones that are available.
During lunch the library is a great place to hang out. The library offers games like chess, puzzles, Jenga, Uno and more. There are plenty of spots to hangout and you might even meet someone new. No messing around though, the library is a place to relax and have a good time.
The library is a hub of information, if a student or club has information to share with the school or community, the library can post it on the hallway monitors and by distributing flyers in the library.
The library has so much to offer to us, so why not check it out. Stop by the library during lunch or on your own time.
