Pulling the Plug on Cable

With the emergence of streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, more and more people are venturing away from their cable companies as their main source of televised entertainment.

These streaming services are providing homeowners with the chance to lower the price of their bills immensely. On average, Americans spend almost $100 a month for cable television, while streaming services such as Netflix, and Amazon Prime cost roughly $100 per year.

While streaming services are cheaper, and more versatile, people still use cable for programs like sports, news, and some cable exclusive shows. So to get the consensus on this issue we took to the halls to ask some students about how they feel about cutting the cord on cable.

We asked Fazli Hida, a Junior at Hawthorne High School, how he feels about cable television and he stated that, “Cable isn’t important to me now that I have Netflix and HBO, if I need news, I have the internet. If I want to watch a movie, I have Amazon Prime.”

Day by day, more and more people are becoming “Cord Cutters”, and now is the perfect time to look at your cable bill and decide if it really is worth $100 a month.
