Hawthorne Fire Department Memorial Monument gets a Makeover

Daniel Sweetman, Staff Writer

The Hawthorne Fire Department Memorial Monument has undergone a face lift. Eighth grader, Kimberly Tamburro took on the project.

Tamburro, a resident of Hawthorne, attends Lincoln Middle School. She raised money at the local Fire Department’s 100th year anniversary, selling baked goods. Tamburro then used the money to buy supplies to help her refurbish the monument. She cleaned, painted and polished the monument to get it looking better than ever.

The fire department acknowledged her actions and followed up by adding granite to the monument. Workers installed the granite on Saturday the 19th, to complete the monuments restoration. You can see the monument for yourself on the Warburton Ave side of the municipal building.
