There has been an outbreak of sticky mailboxes throughout Paterson and now there has been one found in Hawthorne.

There were many reports of missing mail throughout Paterson in different areas. There has only been one mailbox found in Hawthorne so far. The way thieves usually get the envelopes out is by using gluey things such as fly traps to go fishing in order to retrieve letters or packages.

The Postal Inspector from the federal agency’s Newark Office, confirmed getting complaints on what is happening.

This week a message from the Hawthorne Borough was sent out with the warning “Be advised a “sticky” mailbox was found in the Borough. Be diligent when using mailboxes. USPS investigating”
