Hawthorne Police Department Promotes Autism Awareness

Michael Galland, Staff Writer

The Hawthorne Police Department is taking an interesting approach in raising Autism awareness this year.

They have designed a patch with the “Autism Puzzle” that will go on all of the officers uniforms. Officers can be seen wearing this patch throughout the month on April.

They have also created an “Autism Emergency Information Sheet” that the parents or guardians can complete to give the police department insight on their loved one.

The information sheet includes information such as places that this person likes to go to, any distinct identification such as jewelry or an ID card, and their likes and dislikes.

An “Autism Emergency Information Sheet” can be filled out at Hawthorne Police Headquarters, 445 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne, NJ.
