NJ Governor says: Halloween is Happening!

So much has changed throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. So many new rules have been implemented, and so many exciting events have been forced to cancel.

However, all the fall enthusiasts out there will be thrilled to find out that Halloween is one thing that is not being canceled! On Monday, October 5, New Jersey governor Phil Murphy announced that Halloween will in fact be happening this year. However, safety precautions must be taken. Murphy announced that he and his team “want to ensure that everyone has the chance to enjoy Halloween, but we also want to ensure that everyone does that safely and responsibly.”

According to an article featured on nj.com, Murphy’s plan to proceed with Halloween is contingent on trick-or-treaters following the proper safety guidelines. The state Department of Health wants anyone out on Halloween to wear a protective face covering. Murphy also added that a costume mask would not be sufficient, and that an actual protective mask is very important. The Governor also urged Halloween activities to be held outdoors, and stressed that people must comply with the executive order on gathering limits. Trick-or-treaters are also advised to stay within their local neighborhood and practice social distancing while in proximity to those who are not in their own group. Governor Murphy closed his statement by saying, “You may wish to dress as a knucklehead this Halloween, but we don’t want anyone to act like one.” In other words, Halloween can still be enjoyable for everyone if we remember to stay safe and follow necessary precautions!
