Graphic Design students of Hawthorne High School are entering their logo designs for the annual Doodle4Google contest. This year’s theme is “If I could travel in time, I’d visit…”
Joey Carradori, the Graphic Design teacher at HHS has been waiting for the event “Doodle4Google” so she could give her students this great opportunity.
“I frequently check the Google website throughout the year,” said Carradori. Doodle4Google is mandatory in-class project, but the students do have the choice whether or not to enter their artwork design into the contest. There is a written part that corresponds to the class assignment which requires the students to describe their design using 50 words or less.
“I have a few students in mind whose Google design will be submitted,” said Carradori. “I’m excited to see what students will design for Google using their creativity.”
The prize for the one national winner is: $30,000 college scholarship towards the school of his/her choice, a trip to New York, a Google Chromebook Computer, a Wacom digital design tablet, and a tee-shirt with the winner’s design printed on it. Google will also grant the winner’s current school a $50,000 technology grant for improvement of a computer lab or technology programming or towards the building.
Guest Judges of the contest will be Katy Perry, Jeff Marsh, Jordan Sparks, Mo Willems, Holly Black, Tony DiTerlizzi, Brian Nemeckay, and Jack Martin.
The event started on January 18, 2012 and the deadline for postmarking entries is March 20, 2012. The winner will be announced in New York City on May 17, 2012.
