The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation recently announced: “Hawthorne High School did extremely well in the 2012 Profile in Courage Essay Contest.” A congratulatory letter from Caroline Kennedy praised junior students Murad Elias, Danial Qureshi and Kenneth Tousignant, who advanced to the second round of the competition. Only 175 essayists out of the 2,045 writers who submitted essays made it this far.
Theresa DiGeronimo, the nominating teacher, is proud of all the students who worked so hard to meet the challenging requirements of this essay competition. Students were required to write a 700 to 1000 word essay describing and analyzing an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1956. Papers had to include a bibliography of at least five reliable sources, two of which had to be primary sources and one a non-Internet source. The paper had to be submitted in MLA, APA, or CMS format.
Hawthorne congratulates these talented writers.
