John DiLonardo’s Media Arts I classes went to New York City to tour NBC Studios on May 1, 2012.
The tour was led by two experienced guides. To begin, the students were told that cell phones had to be turned off, no electronics were to be on, and absolutely no photography was allowed due to copyright issues. Despite the rules, the tour was memorable and the guides were knowledgeable and fun. The first thing on the tour was a NBC Universal video clip about the NBC Studios.
The guides then took the group to see the studios of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Dr. Oz Show and Saturday Night Live. One of the guides said that the studio where The Dr. Oz Show shoots has carpets made from recycled newspapers. The group also got to see the NBC Broadcast Operations room.
At the end of the tour, the students were able to participate in their very own television show. Cristian Cardenas was chosen to be the anchor and read from the teleprompter. Kevin McKeown was the weatherman.
The tour finally ended in the NBC Universal Experience Store where everyone was able to purchase tee-shirts, key chains, mugs, etc. to remember their time at the NBC Studios.
