The Hawthorne High School Library Media Center presented SAT and College Info Night for parents and students on November 19, 2012 from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Approximately 50 students and parents attended this event, which was intended to educate the community about SATs and college, according to Jennifer Basilone, Director of the HHS Guidance Department. The event was open to both students and parents because, Basilone explained, the student, family, and school all have to work together throughout the college planning process.
Theresa DiGeronimo, HHS Media Specialist and SAT tutor/teacher, also presented at the event. She urged students who are planning on taking the SATs to “prepare, practice, [and] be familiar with the material” and to not “go in cold or you won’t get the best score.”
Basilone and DiGeromnio stated that if any student missed this event, there are a number of ways to find information about the SATs and college. Students can set up a meeting with their guidance counselor to ask their questions or use their Naviance accounts to conduct their own research. Students can also go to the HHS Media Center where a college and career section is set up year round. Underclassmen can also plan to attend the SAT and College Info Night next year.
