Beginning the first day of the 2013-2014 school year, seniors at Hawthorne High School will receive a different colored ID card than the rest of the student body, which will allow them to leave the building for senior lunch more quickly and more efficiently.
Unlike the years in the past, seniors will now be able to use their ID card to leave for lunch instead of physically signing in and out. The different color card will signal to the security guards at the door that the student is a senior and is eligible to leave for lunch.
Starting next year, senior students will have to be especially responsible for carrying their ID cards with them. Not only will they not be permitted to leave for lunch without it, but they could also face consequences with administration for not having their ID on their persons. This is reminiscent of the 2011-2012 school year when students were required to wear their IDs around their neck, but in 2013-2014, students will simply have to have the IDs available to show – whether it is in a pocket or bag.
The Administration also explained to juniors why it was important for them to get their senior portraits taken this May. Juniors who do not have their picture taken at this time, will not receive an ID card on the first day next year. This means that those students will have to wait three weeks to receive their card, prohibiting them from leaving for lunch during the first few weeks of school.
Junior Jessica Terrazzo, believes that, “This new way of leaving for lunch makes things a lot easier and will make the whole process of going out to lunch much faster.”
