Hawthorne High School has recently implemented a new computerized Point Of Sale (POS) system on May 22, 2013.
This new system offers students and staff a quick way to purchase lunch using the school-issued identification cards. At the bottom of the student identification card there is a bar code that is now linked to the student’s debit account. When purchasing lunch, a student can still use cash, but now can also pay with just a swipe of the card. If a student does not have the student ID to present, he or she can type in his or her personal six-number code on the keypad at the checkout counter. The administration at the high school is encouraging students to start making payments into their account so they will become accustomed to using the card before the new common lunch period begins in September.
“I think it’s a good idea. I’m glad they started it now because we get the feel of how to do it, instead of being confused next year,” sophomore Jessica Bryan told The Clarion.
Although many students like the new POS system, some students feel the lunch line has gotten slower since the new system was implemented because now students are just learning how to scan their card or put in the six-number code. However, this will change next year when more people are used to using the debit cards.
This whole system, which is set up to promote a lunch line that moves quickly, is essential with the common lunch that comes with the new drop schedule next year. With this POS system and the new lunchroom in Room 120, the school is certainly trying its best to make the common lunch period a success.
