The Hawthorne High School girls soccer team has been showing support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by sporting pink hair extensions.
Both the varsity and junior varsity team members went to the Hair Hub on Warburton Avenue in Hawthorne, where the pink hair extensions were purchased and applied by the hairdressers for a $10 donation per person. The donation was then given to Susan G. Komen, an organization that raises funds for breast cancer research and education.
The girls have started a tradition amongst the team, as this is the third year in a row the girls soccer team has gotten the pink hair strips during the month of October.
Sophomore Leah Matari said, “I think getting the pink hair is a great thing the team can do to show support for the survivors and victims of breast cancer both in Hawthorne and around the world.” Freshman Mina DiFilippo added, “And they look adorable!”
