Hampson & Conroy Earn RYLA Experience

Juniors Danielle Hampson and Taylor Conroy have been chosen to represent Hawthorne High School at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp, being held at Lake Bryn Mawr Camp and Conference Center in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, May 18-23.

These students were chosen based on a number of criteria, including: leadership and communication skills, well-balanced extracurricular activities, and adult recommendations. They have been identified among their peers as a “doer, not an observer.”

RYLA participants attend an all-expense-paid, six-day workshop focusing on leadership, team building, and professional development topics. Hampson and Conroy will join other talented young people selected by the more than 50 Rotary Clubs of District 7490 in Passaic, Hudson and Bergen counties.

Sessions and workshops include assessing group and individual task readiness and implementing different leadership styles. Participants develop Mission Statements and set goals. Daily guest speakers will inform and motivate the participants on a variety of special interest subjects.

The Rotary Club believes that the skills the participants acquire during the conference will have direct application in their schools, communities, and life situations.
