The HHS School Student Council sponsored the first-ever Homecoming Block Party on Friday, October 10, 2014. The party, located on Parmelee Ave behind the school, started at 6:30 p.m. and lasted until 9:30 p.m. for a $5 admission fee. The Student Council provided a variety of snacks, foods and drinks. Kelly Clifford, HHS English teacher who worked the ticket booth, stated, “It was a fun night, and I think all of the students that attended the block party enjoyed it. So did I.”
Students enjoyed various games that were set up around the block to the background music provided by DJ Frankie G. Rachael Millbrook, HHS senior who attended the block party, stated, “I loved it. I had so much fun dancing to the great music and just hanging out with my friends.”
Students and faculty agree that the Block Party was a great way to celebrate homecoming and was an overall success at Hawthorne High School—and perhaps the start of a new tradition.
