It was a great season for the girls’ volleyball team. As of Nov. 6, the HHS girls’ varsity volleyball season came to a close after an unfortunate loss against eighth-seeded Cedar Grove in the second round of the state tournament. The girls’ final record was 12-11.

Throughout the season all players worked hard to stay committed to the team and continued working hard at all practices and games until the very end. The season included many practices, scrimmages, and games each week. There were many big wins, with grand celebrations at the end of each of those games.

There were unfortunate losses as well for the girls, but no matter what they kept their heads up and continued to work. Many players made a big impact on the team including seniors Cielle Tousignant, Marianna Stas, Kaitlyn Maggiore, Niasia Larosa, Barbara Colizza, and Naria Araya.

Naria Araya commented, “I think we made a lot of improvements since last year. This year we all came together and did our best.” She then added,” I like volleyball because it involves challenging yourself, both physically and mentally. Plus the teamwork. You can’t play volleyball with six individuals on the court. You need to work as a team.”

Head Coach Danielle Salemo added, “This season went a lot better than expected. From the way we started to the way we finished, everyone made tremendous improvements. Being a first year coach there are many things I can improve on like more discipline, practices, better team performances from the beginning, and just keeping the girls performing at a higher level. Before games I would just remind the girls what we worked on during the week and to remember to play their hardest and play together. After games we always reflected on how we did and talked about what we can do to improve.”
