Tamer Mamkej: HHS Computer Tech

Ronny Pena

Students at Hawthorne High School have undoubtedly seen Tamer Mamkej come into one of their classes, at some point, to fix a tech-related problem. If a computer is broken, Mamkej is the go to person. The Clarion had the pleasure of interviewing Mamkej via email.

The Clarion: Where are you from? What high school did you attend?

Tamer: I was born in Ridgewood, NJ and have lived in Haledon, NJ my whole life. I attended Manchester Regional High School and graduated in 2009. I then went to William Paterson University where I got my BS in Computer Science.

The Clarion: What made you choose this career?

Tamer: I got into technology through my dad who used to do computer repairs as a side business. I learned a lot about computers and how to fix them through him, and I really enjoyed it. I eventually started to learn on my own and try new things. It was always fun and interesting to me. In my junior year in high school I was a student tech and after I graduated they offered me a full time job working in their technology department.

The Clarion: How does Hawthorne High School compare to the other places you have worked?

Tamer: I love working at Hawthorne High School a lot. I think the students here are a very smart bunch of kids and they are very friendly. The facility is also very nice as well. Compared to other places I feel that everyone at Hawthorne High is all working together to make all our students great. GO BEARS!!

The Clarion: What is your favorite thing about working with technology?

Tamer: My favorite thing about working with technology is that there is always something new to learn. Everyday something has changed or has been invented and I love that you have to constantly figure things out. It can be very frustrating when you’re trying to find a solution or resolve a problem that you may have never seen before, but when you finally do, it’s an overwhelming feeling of satisfaction. I love that feeling, and I love to learn on my own.
