The Hawthorne High School bowling team finished with its best results in  at least a decade. Junior, Madison Perry has been the anchor for the bowling team the majority of this year. Perry lead the team to a 3½-2½ victory over Northern Valley/Demarest at New Year’s Team Championships. No one is surprised that Perry bowled a turkey in a match, a turkey is when a bowler throws three strikes in a row.

State sectionals took place on February 3rd. Steve Plaszky, a junior at HHS, came in a second-place with a series of 736. This lead Hawthorne to the Group 1 championship over Pompton Lakes. Plaszky and Perry qualified for the February 17th state individual finals at Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick. This was Hawthorne High School’s first sectional title since 2013. With the sectional win, it sent the Bears to the Feb. 19 state team finals at the same location.

The bowling team had a very successful season with athletes on the team bringing in team points as well as individual spotlight.
