Ms. Tullo Earns Literary Award

Hawthorne High School English teacher, Shaina Tullo, was recently awarded the Montclair State University English Department’s Mary Bondon Award for Excellence in Literary Studies. The award, which was presented by Dr. Naomi Liebler (a professor of Seminar in Literary Research) required that the recipient of the award represent high achievement in the graduate program, exemplified through an academic paper. Ms. Tullo’s paper, entitled “The Monster Mash: Allegations of Feminine Monstrosity and Peace-weaving in Beowulf,” examined the biases of various translations of the Beowulf text. The award, which included a scholarship grant, was established by teacher and scholar Mary Bondon to reward those who display dedication to the teaching profession through their literary endeavors.
