Hawthorne High School mathematics teacher, Cheryl  Smith Pasquale, was honored at a celebratory breakfast on June 13 at Ramapo College for her selection by North Jersey Media Group as “Outstanding Educator” in the field of mathematics. Ms. Pasquale was nominated for the award by her pre-calculus student Fabrizio Torres. Torres wrote a letter nominating his teacher in which he described many ways in which Pasquale tailors her lessons to match individual learning styles and abilities and encourages her students to apply their classroom lessons to real-world situations (including tracking the growth of Starbucks’ business model and building 3-foot tall roller coasters). Pasquale’s accomplishments were also acknowledged with an official Proclamation drawn up by the Hawthorne Council and presented to her at their June 1 meeting.
